IVECO has introduced a raft of changes in its latest Daily van and cab chassis line-up, designed to provide prospective owners with additional comfort, safety and functionality.

Building on its predecessor’s already long list of operator benefits, the latest MY22 Daily range has  IVECO taking an evolutionary approach to the line-up, further increasing the model’s credentials in the large van segment while strengthening the Daily’s standing as the country’s best-selling European light truck cab chassis.

Added comfort and safety

Larger drivers will appreciate the new Daily’s revised seating which offers additional bolstering and introduces memory foam – it’s the first vehicle in the commercial space to offer this comfort feature. A taller head rest has also been introduced, while cabin ingress and egress is now even easier thanks to an improved seat ‘get-off’ angle.

Other changes to the cabin include longer seatbelts to accommodate Aussie and Kiwi bodies and lengthened seat rails to allow greater adjustability. Additionally, a slightly deeper bulkhead for van models also assists in providing a more comfortable driving environment for taller drivers.

A shift to electric power steering across the range – from hydraulic in preceding models – delivers several benefits for operators. The change now enables both tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment for improved ergonomics compared to earlier models’ telescopic only adjustment. In slow speed driving situations or when negotiating tight loading zones or carparks, drivers can actuate the new ‘City Mode’ button on the dash, this function reduces steering effort by up to 70 percent helping to reduce fatigue.

A further benefit of the new steering is that allows for the introduction of Proactive Lane Keep Assist* to complement the already present Lane Departure Warning feature. Proactive Lane Keep Assist uses a windscreen-mounted camera that recognises road markings and sounds an alarm if the vehicle strays from its lane without the driver first signaling. If this occurs, the system will autonomously intervene and correct the vehicle’s trajectory.

From a maintenance and functionality perspective, electric power steering means there’s no additional energy absorption from the engine reducing fuel consumption, while lowering vehicle weight and eliminating the chance of oil leaks.

In the load space, previously black grab handles are now yellow for added visibility and safety.

Positioning and maneuvering the latest Daily range is also now easier with adoption of a high-resolution reversing camera for all van models. The new camera features dynamic lines for extra guidance and provides feedback of the distance to objects at the rear of the vehicles at low speeds (0 to 30km/h). This camera is also offered as an option on cab chassis models in conjunction with standard reversing sensors – these sensors are a first for the light truck cab chassis segment and integrate with the instrument cluster, providing visual distance and acoustic indication.

Enhanced aesthetics

Further sharpening the modern aesthetics of the Daily, new models feature a revised streamlined grill design with more prominent horizontal louvres, finished in black for manual transmission models and in black with chrome highlights for vehicles equipped with the automatic transmission.

A new shorter ‘shark fin’ style antenna design has also been introduced along with new rear tail lights for cab chassis, and revised number plate lights to provide a further visual lift.

Interior aesthetics have also advanced with the introduction of harmonised white back lighting for all dashboard panels, switches and instrument cluster, while a transition to a uniform dark dashboard colour palette with matt chrome finish, provides additional sophistication giving a more premium car-like appearance rather than that of a hard-working commercial vehicle.

Lower total cost of ownership

For owners wishing to self-shift, MY22 Daily introduces a revised 6-speed transmission offering best-in-class precision (reduced free play) and an optimised synchronisation system that delivers a passenger car shift feel. The transmission also reduces servicing costs by increasing oil change intervals from an already generous 150,000km to an impressive 350,000km. Additionally, the new gearbox offers a 0.5 per cent reduction in fuel use over its predecessor.

Gaining inspiration from IVECO’s tough ACCO models, the new Daily features a three-piece front bumper, meaning each section can be replaced independently if damaged, rather than as a complete unit, reducing repair costs.

Carryover benefits

The MY22 Daily van range is available in 35S, 50C and 70C variants with single and dual wheel options and volume capacities of 7.3m³, 9m³, 12m³, 16m³, 18m³ and a market-leading 19.6m³. There are also four GVM options starting from a passenger car friendly 3,800kg and 4,495kg through to a light truck licence 5,200kg and market-leading 7,000kg.

The cab chassis line-up consists of 50C and 70C models in both single and dual cab guise. GVM options start at 4,495kg and extend to 5,200kg, 7,000kg and 7,200kg. There are also multiple wheelbase options. Cab chassis models are also available with an expansion module and Power Take-Off. Braked towing capacity for both van and cab chassis models is set at a generous 3,500kg. Selected models are also available with rear airbag suspension and diff lock options.

Driveline

Powering the range are a choice of three powerful yet fuel efficient Euro6 turbodiesel engines beginning with a 2.3l that produces 100kW (136hp) and 350Nm of torque. For additional power, IVECO also offers a 3.0l engine that outputs 132kW (180hp) and 430Nm, while a higher output variant of this powerplant is also available that produces a market-leading 155kW (210hp) and 470Nm.

As well as the upgraded 6-speed manual transmission mentioned earlier, a popular choice in the latest Daily will be IVECO’s market-leading 8-speed full automatic. This transmission is ideal for congested start and stop city driving and also offers sharp and seamless power delivery on the open road, where an optimised shift pattern ensures the vehicle will always be working at optimal speed and efficiency.

Advanced safety

Along with the introduction of optional new Proactive Lane Keep Assist, new IVECO Daily models feature a wide range of active and passive safety features. In addition to front and rear disc brakes with ABS and driver, passenger and curtain airbags, the range includes an Advanced Emergency braking System (AEBS), Adaptive Cruise Control and ESP9, IVECO’s suite of nine electronic stability technologies. Further safety such as Queue Assist*, City Brake* and Lane Departure Warning System can also be optioned at additional cost.

Queue Assist is ideal for slow moving start and stop traffic and allows the vehicle to automatically accelerate and brake to a complete stop, helping to safeguard against driver distraction and reducing driver fatigue. City Brake is designed for similar conditions and prefills the braking system for faster response if it detects an imminent collision. It also provides visual and audio warnings to the driver and if no action is taken, will apply the brakes automatically.

Car-like interior

The latest Daily transports the driver and passenger in comfort and style whether to and from the work site, or on the road all day in the case of courier and freight applications. The range features a high resolution TFT instrument cluster that’s easy to read with seven dedicated screen menus and over 100 points of information. It’s also equipped with the Hi-Connect multimedia system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth; additionally, the system can be optioned with GPS Navigation by TomTom as part of pack contents (see further below).

Other benefits include a dash-mounted electronic park brake that provides additional space and makes it easier to move around the cabin, with the added functionality of automatically engaging at key off, and disengaging once the driver’s seatbelt is fastened, the key is on and ‘drive’ selected, or when the park brake senses that the vehicle is trying to move off in the case of manual transmission models.

Also aiding convenience is optional cordless inductive charging for mobile phones and other devices, while innovative storage solutions throughout the cabin provide plenty of room to stow PPE along with other equipment and documents.

A heated and suspended fully adjustable driver’s seat is standard across the range (standard for front passengers on Dual Cab Chassis and optional for front passengers of other models).

Option packs

Depending on the owner’s application and business needs, IVECO offers four option packs allowing buyers to more efficiently and cost effectively tailor a package that best suits their requirements.

Packages include ‘Hi-Business Pack’ (Hi-Connect multimedia system with GPS navigation, open storage with inductive charge + USB, fog lights, full LED headlights); ‘Hi-Comfort Pack’ (automatic controlled air conditioning, leather covered steering wheel, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, automatic wipers and headlights control); ‘Hi-Technology Pack – Automatic Transmission (Queue Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Proactive Lane Keep Assist, City Brake, Traction Plus and Hill Descent, Automatic high beam control) and ‘Hi-technology Pack – Manual Transmission (City Brake, Traction plus and hill descent, Automatic high beam control, Lane Departure Warning and Proactive Lane Keep Assist).
